About the artist Vesna Duval

Vesna Duval is a contemporary abstract painter based in Slovenia.

Her practice is rooted in architectural and material-based abstraction, exploring structure, restraint, and the physical presence of painted surfaces. She approaches the canvas as a constructed space rather than a site of expression, building compositions through layered surfaces, controlled gestures, and muted tonal relationships.

Architecture, materiality, and balance play a central role in her work. She is interested in how tension can exist quietly — how weight, erosion, and time can be suggested without narrative or symbolism.

The paintings develop slowly, allowing each layer to settle and contribute to a sense of stability. Rather than seeking immediate impact, the work invites prolonged engagement, rewarding attention through subtle shifts in texture and form.
